Through our relationship with the South African Football Association and the Gauteng Department of Education we managed to reach 300 girls to register to attend the ‘Her Game’ football journey.
COACHES CORNER:
5 July 2025
Inspirational talk hosted by influential women in SA FTBL. A total attendance of 264 girls between the ages of 15 - 17 years attended the coaches corner and got to learn more about the important components in football such as safe guarding, sports conditioning and nutrition.
TRIALS
5 July 2025
An intense 1 DAY session that saw 264 girls taking part in the trial sessions that were curated using the Nike Academy football playbook. The trials saw the group being trimmed to 34 girls that would take part in the Nike academy Journey.
NIKE ACADEMY JOURNEY
7-19 July 2025
The selected 34 girls took part in a 2 week academy journey where they received structured Nike academy development training which was spearheaded by former Banyana Banyana players Portia Modise, Fikile Sithole and Thokozile Mndaweni.
HER GAME ON SAFA TV EPISODE
This episode is packed with energy, inspiration, and football greatness. We kick off with Her Game, taking viewers behind the scenes at Nike’s Shapa Soweto sports facility as Dawn Lubisi (SAFA head of women’s football), Simone Conley (Biokineticist, Sports scientist and football conditioning coach), and Bokamoso Nkomo (Sports presenter) empower the next generation of female footballers. Then it’s Up Close with Portia ‘Bashin’ Modise, tracing her journey from the streets of Soweto to becoming a global football icon.

HER GAME GRADUATES
Her Game 2022 and 2023 saw 12 participants getting an opportunity to be onboarded in the SAFA system. 1 girl got their senior call up with Banyana Banyana, 7 girls represented Basetsana in the COSAFA tournament, and 4 girls are currently being developed in the SAFA academy system.
Her Game 2025 took a different turn, we invited the University of Johannesburg FC and JVW FC to play practice matches with the selected 34. UJ offered 5 girls with full scholarships to study and play for UJ in the Hollywood bets premier league. JVW took 5 girls for trials under their club, they managed to sign 3 of the girls, which are now registered with JVW in the highest football league in the country, the Hollywood bets league.
